You Quit, Two Quit was launched in July, 2008. This program seeks to support comprehensive tobacco use screening and cessation counseling for pregnant and postpartum women. The Women and Tobacco Coalition for Health (WATCH) serves as the Advisory Committee for this project.
The first three years of the program, we conducted perinatal tobacco cessation quality improvement initiatives with the Columbus, Richardson, Wilkes, and Davidson County Health Departments, along with the development of educational materials for pregnant and postpartum women and the providers who care for them. Initial funding came from the NC Health and Wellness Trust Fund. A fourth year of this project was funded by the North Carolina Division of Public Health from 2011-2012. The March of Dimes and the federal Office on Women’s Health have also supported this important program. Currently, training and technical assistance are available to practices with support from the Duke Endowment – EPIC project. We are seeking new funders with the hope that this valuable work will remain in place going forward into the next fiscal year.
