Dr. Menard received her B.S. with Honors in Zoology and Psychology from Duke University and her M.D. at New Jersey Medical School. She went on to complete her Residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. Following her Residency, she completed her Fellowship in Maternal Fetal Medicine at UNC School of Medicine in 1991. During her Fellowship, Dr. Menard completed her MPH in Epidemiology as well as became a Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholar. Dr. Menard has been Board Certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology since 1994 and Maternal Fetal Medicine since 1996. In concordance, she has been certified under the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ABOG) since 2003.

Dr. Menard serves as an Upjohn Distinguished Professor; Vice Chairman of Obstetrics; Division Director, Maternal Fetal Medicine; and Co-Director, Center for Maternal and Infant Health.

Sarah Verbiest is a Clinical Associate Professor at the UNC School of Social Work and the Executive Director of the Center for Maternal & Infant Health in the UNC School of Medicine. She is also the CDC Senior Consultant for the National Preconception Health and Health Care Initiative and the director of the Every Woman Southeast Coalition, a regional preconception health initiative. In addition to teaching courses on health equity and policy, she directs several programs addressing the needs of women, pregnant women, new mothers and their infants – including tobacco cessation, recurring preterm birth prevention with 17P and postpartum health and wellness. She earned her Masters in Social Work, Masters in Public Health (Maternal and Child Health) and Doctorate in Public Health (Leadership) from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Katherine has been a program manager with the CMIH since 2014. She serves as the project coordinator to our CoIIN and Care4Moms projects. Katherine also provides support for the Bowes Cefalo Young Researcher Award as well as several other programs at the CMIH. She received her Master of Arts in Liberal Studies from Duke University in 2007 and her Master of Science in Public Health from Gillings School of Global Public Health in Healthy Policy and Management at UNC in 2010. Dr. Kristin P. Tully is a Research Associate at the Carolina Global Breastfeeding Institute. She is also Project Manager of two federally funded research studies through the Center for Developmental Science at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Dr. Tully’s program of research investigates childbirth decision-making, infant feeding tradeoffs, and parent-infant sleep practices. Broadly, she is interested in understanding and supporting the individualized needs of new families. Kristin majored in Economics and Honors Anthropology for her B.A. at the University of Notre Dame, obtained her Ph.D. in Biological Anthropology from Durham University in England, and was a NICHD Postdoctoral Fellow at the Duke University School of Nursing through the interinstitutional Carolina Consortium on Human Development.

Physically located in Asheville, Megan is focused on extending the reach of the CMIH into the western part of the state. She works primarily with the You Quit, Two Quit program, providing training and technical assistance to clinics in integrating tobacco cessation and screening into their practice. Megan received a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from the University of Notre Dame, and both a Master of Social Work and a Master of Science in Public Health (Maternal and Child Health) from UNC Chapel Hill. At the Center for Maternal and Infant Health she combines her passion for health, wellness, and patient advocacy with her depth of experience in health/pharma communications and digital marketing. She currently manages the The National Preconception Health and Health Care Initiative (PCHHC), which recently launched the first national preconception consumer campaign, Show Your Love.

She has over 25 years of combined experience working as an RN in neonatal intensive care and a teacher of special needs families in schools and communities.
