Thriving Hearts aims to implement programs through Local Health Departments (LHDs) that cultivate conditions for mothers and birthing people to not only survive pregnancy, but to thrive.
Thriving Hearts is a collaboration with the health departments in ten North Carolina counties, designed to lower the number of people with Hypertensive Disorders of Pregnancy (HDP) through support and connection at the individual, healthcare provider, and community level.

Thriving Hearts is a collaboration with the health departments in ten North Carolina counties, designed to lower the number of people with Hypertensive Disorders of Pregnancy (HDP) through support and connection at the individual, healthcare provider, and community level.
The Thriving Hearts Program involves services for: A) Pregnant people: screening for pregnant people at high risk of HDP. Those who are high risk will receive a home blood pressure monitor, low dose aspirin as well as text-based blood pressure reminders and health tips. B) Healthcare teams: workshops and training on healing-centered, trauma-informed care for healthcare workers to prevent burnout. C) Communities: community health workers connecting families to community resources, community events, and participation of medical-legal partnership.
Funded by the Eugene Washington Patient Centered Outcomes Research Institute and housed within CMIH, this major, multi-year research study applies innovation, team science, and community leadership to take on a very challenging problem. Learn more at thrivingheartsnc.org.
