The Center for Maternal and Infant Health is very grateful for the support it has received from generous sponsors and donors. Without these funds, the Center would not be able to work to fulfill its mission – without these funds the Center would not be, period. The financial contributions of our past, current and future sponsors is critical to our efforts to provide quality services to families who need them.

Special Thanks to our Founding Sponsors

The Duke Endowment has given the Center $1 million dollars over the past five years to support the cost of getting the Center up and running. Funds have supported the work of our Perinatal Care Specialists, a lactation consultant, the website, the development of a patient tracking system, satisfaction surveys, newsletters and more. The Center is indebted to the Duke Endowment for their belief in our mission and their commitment to North Carolina’s mothers and children.

The Center is equally grateful to the Kate B. Reynolds Charitable Trust who has provided $311,763 over the past three years to support the addition of a bi-lingual care coordinator to our staff. This position provides specialized services to patients who do not speak English as well as those who are very poor. Their funds have allowed the Center to improve its service to the pregnant women and infants of North Carolina. The Center appreciates the Kate B. Reynolds Charitable Trust’s commitment to caring for the health and medical needs of the people of North Carolina who may be in need of medical care or assistance for financial reasons.

The Office of the Dean of the School of Medicine was critical to the development of the Center for Maternal and Infant Health at UNC. The Dean made a 5-year financial commitment of over $500,000 to provide start up funds to support center leadership. The Center for Maternal and Infant Health is grateful for the foresight and support of the School of Medicine. It hopes to contribute to the UNC Health Care Vision of Leading. Teaching. Caring.

Donors

  • The Center thanks the Jon and Dina Mills Family for their generous contribution of $15,000 to the Center for Maternal and Infant Health. The Mills expressed an interest in easing the wait for pregnant mothers and caregivers who need to bring their young children with them to the prenatal clinic. To this end, they are funding the addition of a play table, fun mirrors, a rolling book cart filled with story books for toddlers & preschoolers, child size chairs and a beautiful activity cart filled with games and quiet past times to the prenatal clinic. They have also provided an activity cart with games, stickers, puzzles and more for the family waiting room / sibling program in the Newborn Critical Care Center. This donation will go far in meeting the needs of the special Center families who need the services of UNC Hospitals.
  • Mike and Kendra Brunetti make annual donations to support the Center's Fetal Intervention Program. They are reaching out to friends and family to join the cause and are planning to host a golf fundraiser in Charlotte Spring 2006. For the Brunetti's life is all about their beautiful daughter Makayla and the celebration of her birth and health. (see stories)
  • The North Carolina Chapter of the March of Dimes has provided support for professional education as well as resources to focus preterm birth recurrence prevention.
  • The North Carolina Children's Promise continues to provide funds for the translation of materials into Spanish and double strollers which are adapted for ventilator dependent infants.
  • The North Carolina Center for Public Service has given the Center a $5,000 grant for the Building Bridges, Fostering Partnerships project. This year long effort focuses on connecting with partners and colleagues in Chatham County to learn how to improve our joint care for high-risk mothers and babies, particularly those who speak Spanish.
