"Imagine a love so strong that saying hello and goodbye in the same day was worth the sorrow." ~ Author Unknown
The Center's expert medical team of maternal fetal medicine obstetricians, neonatalogists, and pediatric specialists develop a treatment plan for each pregnant patient. They apply their years of experience and access to current research to determine the best course of care for each patient. Sadly, there are times when even the best medical expertise is unable to save a very sick fetus or baby. Pregnant mothers whose babies have a confirmed diagnosis of a fatal condition are given the chance to receive perinatal palliative care services.
This special program gives extra emotional support to the mother and family. It walks them through the process of making a birth plan. This plan allows the family to make important choices about the care given to them and their baby. Information about loss and grieving is given to the family along with extra follow up for several years following the loss of the baby. The perinatal hospice team includes social workers, chaplains, nurses – many different people who know how to help. This is a unique service offered through the Center. A list of online support groups and resources may be found in this section of this website as well as some of the resources used in the program and a directory of staff.

"A butterfly lights beside us, like a sunbeam...
and for a brief moment its glory
and beauty belong to our world...
but then it flies on again, and although
we wish it could have stayed,
we are so thankful to have seen it at all."
