Dear Parent,
On behalf of the Newborn Critical Care Center (NCCC) at UNC Hospitals, I would like to invite you to become a member of our NCCC Alumni network of families. Since the time your baby was in the NCCC we have continued to work to improve the care we provide to families and to identify ways we can better serve families during their baby’s hospitalization. An important part of meeting the needs of families is to understand the experience from the family’s perspective. We believe that families who have lived through the experience of having a premature or critically ill baby are our best resource.
Some of the new things in the NCCC that are directed at improving the care of families are the Family Centered Care Committee, the Family Advisory Board, and our recent designation as the North Carolina site for a March of Dimes NICU Family Support project that will begin sometime early in 2007. All of these are wonderful steps toward improving service to our families but we still need your help.
How can you help?
We are putting together a NCCC Alumni network of families who will:
- Be linked by email/listserv
- Provide input on NCCC policies and resources that affect families
- Be informed of and help with NCCC related events and activities for families (NCCC Reunion, special Mother’s Day, Father’s Day and holiday events, family support luncheons, etc.)
- Provide expertise on specific issues (teaching new nurses and physicians about parent’s perspective, helping in nursery design and program development, etc.)
- Consider volunteering to work with families in the NCCC
- Be informed of fundraising events that will benefit families of NCCC babies
How can you sign up?
- Enter your name and email address in the boxes above and press Submit.
- Due to limited resources, we are unable to use the US Postal Service. The NCCC Alumni list will be maintained as an email list. We are very sorry if you are unable to participate due to lack of a computer. We hope to have other ways to involve parents without computer access in the future.
If you would like more information from a parent on the Family Advisory Board, please call member Judy Ward at her home office: (919) 362-9534.
If you cannot participate in the Parent Alumni network but would like to contribute to programs for families in NCCC, please contact: The Children’s Promise at the website http://ncchildrenspromise.org or by calling (919) 966-5812. Please request that your gift go to the Newborn Critical Care Center.
Thank you!
