Preventing sleep related injuries or accidents is very important. Click here for a great resource for parents from the American Academy of Pediatrics. Remember, babies should be placed on their backs to sleep unless they have a specific medical condition that requires a different sleep position. Their cribs should not have bumper pads, quilts, stuffed animals, toys or pillows. Babies need to sleep in their own crib - not on couches, chairs, waterbeds or beanbag chairs. Do not let anyone smoke near your baby. Keep the baby and the room temperature comfortable - not too hot. Be sure that there are not strings (from window treatments, balloons, etc) near your baby's bed. It is important that all the people who take care of your baby put him or her to sleep on his or her back.
